LATRA Compliance

Our commitment to regulatory compliance in Tanzania

Last updated: March 1, 2026

01Our Commitment

SasaRide is fully committed to operating in compliance with the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) of Tanzania. We recognise that regulation is essential to ensuring safe, fair, and reliable transportation services for all Tanzanians, and we actively collaborate with LATRA to uphold the highest industry standards.

We maintain open communication channels with LATRA and participate in regulatory consultations to help shape policies that benefit riders, drivers, and the broader transport ecosystem. Compliance is not merely an obligation for us — it is a core part of how we operate.

02Licensing

SasaRide holds a valid technology-based transport service licence issued by LATRA, authorising us to operate our ride-hailing platform within the United Republic of Tanzania. This licence is renewed in accordance with LATRA's regulatory schedule and is subject to ongoing compliance requirements.

Our licensing status can be verified directly with LATRA. We display our licence details transparently within the app and on this website so that riders and drivers can confirm our authorised status at any time.

03Driver Requirements

Every driver on the SasaRide platform must hold a valid Tanzanian driving licence of the appropriate class, a LATRA-issued operator permit, and must pass a thorough background check. Drivers are required to complete a safety and customer service orientation before they can accept rides.

We conduct periodic document re-verification and compliance audits to ensure that all active drivers continue to meet LATRA's requirements. Drivers whose documents expire or who fail to meet ongoing standards are automatically deactivated until they are back in compliance.

04Vehicle Standards

All vehicles operating on the SasaRide platform must pass a roadworthiness inspection, carry valid third-party and passenger insurance, and be registered with LATRA. Vehicles must be no older than 15 years and must be maintained in clean, safe, and mechanically sound condition.

We require vehicles to be inspected at LATRA-approved centres at regular intervals. Vehicles that fail inspection are removed from the platform until the necessary repairs are completed and a passing inspection certificate is submitted.

05Fare Regulations

SasaRide's fare structure is designed in accordance with LATRA's pricing guidelines. Our base fares, per-kilometre rates, and surge pricing parameters are set within the bounds established by the regulator to ensure that rides remain affordable and that drivers receive fair compensation.

Fare transparency is a priority. Riders see an estimated fare before confirming a ride, and a detailed breakdown is provided on every receipt. We submit fare-related data to LATRA as required and adjust our pricing model promptly in response to any regulatory changes.

06Reporting & Accountability

We provide LATRA with regular reports on ride volumes, safety incidents, driver compliance metrics, and customer complaints as required by our operating licence. These reports enable the regulator to monitor our operations and ensure we are meeting our obligations.

SasaRide maintains a dedicated compliance team responsible for liaising with LATRA, addressing regulatory enquiries, and implementing any corrective actions. We take all LATRA directives seriously and aim to resolve compliance matters promptly and transparently.
